THE SINGLE STORY CREATES STEREOTYPES, AND THE PROBLEM WITH STEREOTYPES IS NOT THAT THEY ARE UNTRUE, BUT THAT THEY ARE INCOMPLETE. THEY MAKE ONE STORY BECOME THE ONLY STORY.

A Single Story seeks to champion diverse voices in literature, poetry, television, film and theater by aggregating and spotlighting opportunities for writers of color.

It is a response to the need for people of color to have ownership of their stories and the dangers that arise when others frame our narratives on our behalf.

Our mission is to raise awareness of these opportunities, to dismantle stereotypes and to bring accuracy and authenticity to the stories that shape our lives.
